£5000 Green Community Fund!

£5,000 is available for the SOAS community to apply for with your environmental project ideas! This is open to students, staff, and alumni. The funds are from the solar panels that were installed on the roof of the Old Building as part of the student-led project Solar SOAS. Solar SOAS is a community energy project, and the funds that are generated go into an annual fund to help further environmental projects at SOAS.

This year is our 5th anniversary of getting the panels installed (our birthday is 26th September, 2016). To celebrate, a Green Community Fund of £5000 is up for grabs!

The deadline for submissions is 5th January 2022. If you have questions about the criteria or the form, please email [email protected]. We encourage you to apply!

You can find the full criteria and application form for your bid on the Solar SOAS website here: http://www.uni-solar.org/apply-for-the-community-fund

Big CONGRATS to Fossil Free UCL!!!!

UCL DIVESTS AFTER 7 YEARS OF SUPPRESSING STUDENT PROTEST !!

UCL originally held around £16 million in fossil fuel shares, notably in Royal Dutch Shell, and yesterday they made the decision to divest completely.

Although we are pleased UCL has finally divested, we are disappointed that today’s decision makes UCL one of the last UK universities to divest and after a history of intense clamp-down on student protest, threats of disciplinary action, policing and surveillance of activists.

Divesting after years of students’ campaign should NOT be perceived as the symbol of positive change from UCL management but the proof that the latter has tried, by all means, to rip us of our right to make higher education better, more accessible and for its students.
