The Japanese phenomenon of Shokuhin Sanpuru-astonishingly realistic food replicas displayed in front of restaurants across Japan-was showcased in the first-ever exhibition outside Japan at in High Street Kensington.

I am truly honored to celebrate my family’s legacy, as my great-great-uncle, Takizo Iwasaki, was the visionary who invented food replicas in my small hometown of Gujo-Hachiman back in the 1930s. His innovation has since become an integral part of Japanese culinary culture, allowing restaurants to present their dishes with remarkable detail and craftsmanship.

The exhibition, which ran for four months, was a truly immersive experience. It featured an incredible collection of food replicas representing all 47 prefectures of Japan, highlighting the country’s rich and diverse regional cuisines. Visitors also had the opportunity to explore the fascinating history of Shokuhin Sanpuru, from its humble beginnings to the intricate, lifelike artistry it is today.

The exhibition’s design, masterfully curated by was absolutely stunning-seamlessly blending history, craftsmanship, and modern aesthetics. It was an unforgettable experience, and I am deeply grateful to have been part of sharing this unique aspect of Japanese culture with the world.

日本発のカルチャーである「食品サンプル」が、国外では初となる展示会として、ハイストリート・ケンジントンの で開催されました。

食品サンプルは、岐阜県郡上八幡の小さな村で開発され、大正から昭和にかけて全国に広まり、日本の食文化に欠かせない存在となりました。私の叔父（高祖叔父）である岩崎瀧三も、その開発者のひとりとされています。

4か月にわたって開催されたこの展示会では、日本全国47都道府県の食品サンプルが紹介され、それぞれの地域の豊かな食文化を知ることができました。また、食品サンプルの歴史を紐解き、その誕生から今日の芸術作品へと進化してきた過程を学ぶ貴重な機会となりました。

この展示は、 #ジャパンハウスロンドン によって見事に演出され、ユニークな日本のカルチャーを世界に発信できたことを、心から感謝しています。
