Most people think of motion capture and they picture an array of cameras, or a suit wrapped in sensors.

However, there's a whole category of mocap that uses no cameras whatsoever, and it’s being used in some incredible ways.

Magnetic motion capture is tracking tremors in Parkinson's patients, real time inside military aircraft and in the biomechanical analysis of Olympic athletes, to name just a few applications.

Take a look at our guide to magnetic motion capture, and see how it compares to optical and IMU systems, what the real limitations are, and which applications it's ideal for:

This week we saw the launch of brand new virtual production studio at the Havers Road Immersive Visualisation and Simulation Lab, integrated expertly by the Target3D system engineering team.

We’ve proudly supplied the PrimeX 22 camera system with Cinepuck tracking, compatible with and real time workflows. With VERONA LED panels and a Sony Venice camera, this studio is giving students hands-on experience with the tools of modern filmmaking.

Our team also showcased the Polivision Table, a miniature, portable virtual production set making VP education more accessible, as well as the AV Awards Product of the year the Sony Spatial Reality Display, a glasses-free display with facial tracking that shows 3D content in real time.

Huge congratulations to NUA and all the partners that came together to make this happen. We can’t wait to see what’s to come!

Costume design meets volumetric capture 👗🎥

StudioT3D has partnered with Guildhall Production Studio and Angels Costumes to support the creation of ARray: an interactive digital costume library that lets designers view, experiment and collaborate remotely.

This Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded project shows how volumetric capture (powered by 4Dviews) has the potential to transform workflows across theatre, film and beyond!

ARCHIVE / PROJECT: The Atom by XYZ Reality

Precision and Pressure - in a challenging space.

XYZ Reality needed tracking tech with millimetre-level accuracy for The Atom - a high-performance tool for the construction industry.

The challenge?
Their R&D space was packed with obstacles:
🏗️ Low ceilings
🪟 Glass walls
🧱 Pillars
🌀 Stairwells

There was no margin for error and zero room for a traditional set-up.

🛠️ Our solution?
A custom OptiTrack passive marker system with a mix of PrimeX 13 + PrimeX13 W cameras - mounted to perfection with bespoke clamps, ensuring zero dead zones and full capture confidence.

💬 “Choosing the hardware was just step one. It was the team’s expertise in space design and system tuning that made it fly.”
Ashley Keeler, Director, Target3D

✅ The result?
A tracking system that delivered incredible accuracy and help improve an industry!

💬 “Target3D delivered exactly what we needed to validate the accuracy of The Atom. Truly amazing to work with.”
Dr Kaz Khaki, VP Tech, XYZ Reality
