FIRE OF LONDON 1666
A fire broke out at Thomas Farriner's bakery in Pudding Lane, a little after midnight on Sunday 2 September. The family were trapped upstairs, but managed to climb from an upstairs window to the house next door, except for a maidservant who was too scared to try, thus becoming the first victim

The Great Fire of London was a major conflagration that swept through central London for 3 days in 1666. The fire destroyed the medieval City of London inside the old Roman city wall, while also extending past the wall to the west.

Old Maps Library reprint map of: A Plan of the City and Liberties of London; showing the extent of the dreadful conflagration in the year 1666. Engraved for Noorthouck's History of London, 1772.
