Social media is playing a big role in the illegal cross-border puppy trade, and it needs to stop❗️🐶

A new FOUR PAWS investigation found that puppies from Bulgaria, most of which were being sold underage, without microchips and without pet passports, are being primarily advertised on Facebook groups.

Even though this investigation happened in Bulgaria, it still affects the UK. People in the UK can easily come across online puppy sellers who aren’t properly regulated. Some dogs may also be moved illegally into wider European breeding networks. And platforms like Meta are still being used to openly advertise and support this trade.

With the Animal Welfare (Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Act still awaiting the Secondary Legislation needed to make it law, this report is further evidence that we need to see clear regulations in place to prevent vulnerable mothers and puppies from being exploited in the corrupt cross-border puppy trade.

BREAKING NEWS 🚨: Plans have been submitted for a new UK chicken farm producing 1.36 million birds a year, with up to 180,000 chickens kept in sheds at any one time.
