Every year, 200,000 people in the UK have skin cancer surgically removed. For those with ulcerated skin cancers, the risk of wound infection is six times higher. Despite this, there’s no clear guidance on whether preventative antibiotics should be used before surgery.

The EXCISE Trial aims to answer this question. We’re recruiting 380 patients across UK NHS hospitals to take part in a pragmatic, double-blinded randomised controlled trial. Participants will receive either a one-off dose of antibiotics or a placebo, with follow-up to assess infection rates, recovery, and impact on daily life.

This research will provide vital evidence to ensure the best treatment for future patients. Interested in taking part? Email [email protected] to express your interest.

The DISTRACT Study: A New Non-Surgical Approach to Thumb Base Osteoarthritis

Thumb base osteoarthritis (TBOA) is common, with limited treatment options before surgery. The DISTRACT orthosis aims to off-load joint forces, potentially slowing or reversing disease progression - without surgery.

We’re running a first-in-human feasibility study and need patients' and clinicians' input via surveys to guide trial design.
