Prerna* had to leave school after 8th grade, not because she lacked interest or ability, but because she was denied the time and opportunity to continue learning. With survival taking priority at home, education seemed like a luxury her family could not afford.

When CRY’s project team stepped in, Prerna found hope. Through patient counselling sessions, her family was convinced to re-enrol her in school. Given the time and opportunity to stay in school, she could focus on learning and dreaming again. Staying in school helped her grow in confidence and believe in what she could achieve.

She didn’t stop there. Prerna later cleared the teacher selection test and secured a government job as a school teacher.

Today, she supports her siblings in their education and encourages children in her community to stay in school.

But for many girls, there is little time to pause, notice, or ask questions. Chores and labour replace the small moments that spark wonder and understanding.

When a girl stays in school, she is given the time to look closer, ask why, and explore the world around her. That curiosity becomes the foundation of learning, confidence, and possibility.
