Fleet Lease Agreements That Outlast Their Purpose
A lease that passes its renewal date does not stop generating cost. It continues, often on worse terms, for a vehicle that may no longer be needed.
Across any fleet these rollovers happen gradually. Each one is small enough to avoid attention on its own.
The information is usually there. Start dates, renewal windows, termination terms. The problem is where it sits. A renewal date in a spreadsheet does not surface alongside the vehicle's running cost or utilisation.
The financial impact only becomes visible at year end or during a contract audit. By then the cost has already been absorbed.

Fuel duty pressure has not disappeared. It has been delayed.
With petrol prices rising and HGV fill-up costs now around £1,000 per tank, the confirmed delay to planned fuel duty increases gives hauliers some short-term relief.
The 12-month VED holiday will also help reduce immediate cost pressure, with renewal cut to £1 for eligible vehicles.
But the full 5p per litre increase has not been removed. For fleet operators, that means fuel budgets still need to account for potential increases into 2027.
Short-term relief. Longer-term uncertainty.
