After living for a year in London I developed anxiety about public transportation. Well, I guess it makes sense. Twice I fell coming out from the lovely red double-decker bus. Why? The ramp was too steep. Twice I fell out of my wheelchair on the street. Why? The road had a small inconspicuous pit. Quite a number of times elevator on the station would be broken. As a result complete disruption of my journey. Every single time when I ask for ramp assistance on the train I'm worried. Why? Because if they forget, or do not receive the information I’ll be stuck with the possibility of a long unplanned train journey into the unknown.
That's the price of my freedom, of being active. Peace of mind is the price that every disabled person has to pay who dared to get out of their house.
In one of the most accessible cities in the world
But I'm done being anxious. Now I'm an angry little bird 🐧
Unfortunately, completely not surprised that an Israeli minister couldn't attend COP26 due to a wheelchair access issue. Discrimination is still here, every day and it's wrong.
I would love to surround myself more with people who feel the same way 🤍
