SOAS Cut The Rent
Update: August 20, 2020
Hi all,
We know it’s been a long time since you’ve heard from us, but we have some good news. Our legal team has finalised the pro-bono agreement documents, and now we need your signatures if you want them to represent you.
There are two documents to review: the Terms of Business and the Pro Bono Agreement. Please read them through carefully before returning the Pro Bono Agreement with your signature. The deadline for signatures is 2 September 2020, so don’t leave it until the last minute!
Once you have signed the document, please scan them and send them to [email protected] ASAP. Hopefully this will be the action that ends this struggle.
We hope you are all doing well and keeping safe.
In solidarity,
The Team
P.S. We’re not sharing the documents here for confidentiality reasons. If you didn’t receive the documents by e-mail, please message us and we’ll send them to you!

URGENT Update: May 28, 2020
Hi all,
It has been brought to our attention that Sanctuary Students has engaged a third party debt recovery service and students are receiving e-mails threatening legal action should the debt not be repaid in 7 days. We recognise that this is beyond our ability to fight alone, so we have engaged a law firm to represent us against Sanctuary Students.
This is a scary update but please rest assured that we are being proactive about the situation. We have confirmed that the law firm will be representing us pro bono, and we are working to collect all of the evidence we might need to defend ourselves.
So, what can you do right now?
1. Don’t panic. You don’t need to pay up and you don’t need to respond. From here on out, we are letting our legal team communicate on our behalf.
2. If you have any relevant evidence (e-mails, written communications, photos, etc.) that may be useful, please send them to [email protected] with “EVIDENCE” as the subject line.
3. We are holding another Zoom town hall tomorrow at 11:00 BST. If you have any questions or anything you want to ask the team about, join us here: https://lse.zoom.us/j/95504432667
At this very moment, our legal team is figuring out our course of action. We will make sure every single one of you is protected. The rent strike team is here for you if you need to talk.
In solidarity,
The team
