Anytime you need to share confidential information about yourself, such as all of your contact information, your credit/bank account number (to make online payments), you should always make sure that the site is HTTPS. This will protect your information from being taken by hackers and used to steal your identity. If you want to make a purchase online and you notice that the site is not HTTPS, you should either phone in your order or physically go to the store.

By using a VPN (virtual private network) when you connect to a public Wi-Fi network, you'll effectively be using a 'private tunnel' that encrypts all of your data that passes through the network. This can help to prevent cybercriminals — that are lurking on the network — from intercepting your data.

Security researchers have found a way to bypass that limit on Visa cards. Their hack, which isn’t limited to U.K. cards, could let opportunistic crooks drain accounts with a single tap, and they claim they don’t even need to steal the credit card. And little on Visa’s side is being done to address this fresh fraud threat.
