This week, the fourth-years showcased the car as part of the capstone project showcase in the Active Learning Lab. The event was an opportunity to display our work to fellow engineering students. This was particularly rewarding as provided an opportunity for the components which have been made to be attached to the car, which is an exciting stage in the projects progress. This also provided a good opportunity for the design posters to be created and printed, solidifying our design choices.

Later in the week, the alumni returned for a mock scrutineering and statics day, where they provided us with helpful feedback and suggestions on how to maximise our points at competition. Thank you to all alumni who returned for the day.

Among the components produced this week were several critical parts for ULM019, including waterjet cutting the headrest mount, master switch plate, and HVD brackets. The exposed edges of the rear bulkhead plate were filled to be rule abiding, which signals the end of the manufacturing of it.

As we head into the final week of term, we will continue to manufacture and prepare for our week 12 presentations on Wednesday.

The third and final week of Easter saw the push rods for the suspension manufactured, with welding due to happen early next week. Additionally, the rear plate had holes drilled in it, and the master switch plate was waterjet cut, along with its brackets.

The vacuum forming of the master switch enclosure is set to happen early next week, and the design event posters have been printed ahead of alumni day for scrutiny.

The first week of the Easter break has been highly productive for the team, with significant progress being made with the manufacturing of ULM019.

Suspension parts, including rod ends and conical washers/spacers, have been successfully collected from Joloda, thank you as always for your support. The suspension jig has been mounted onto the chassis, a good milestone in the assembly process.

On the cooling side, the team has been testing the water cooling jackets. Additionally, the pump mounts have been water jet cut and bent.

The production of the rear bulkhead plate continues to progress, with the carbon fibre skins currently being cured.

The week concluded with a team BBQ at Sefton, which was a great opportunity for the team to bond and recharge for the remaining two weeks of the break.

We’ve just finished week 10 of semester 2, which means we’ve hit the Easter break. It’s been a busy week as we push through manufacturing and get assignments submitted. Despite the deadlines fast approaching, the team has kept the momentum going and we are making progress towards getting the car built.

This week, we successfully waterjet cut the 20mm aluminium honeycomb comb for the rear plate. This is now ready to be laid up with carbon fibre in the coming week.

Alongside this, we also waterjet cut a jig for the suspension system. The jig has been assembled and is ready to use for accurately welding the suspension brackets in place.
