Lifting weights makes you happier.
And Science says so!
Okay, full disclosure, I might be putting two and two together here, but I am making a logical 4 - hear me out.
In 2010 researchers from Harvard University conducted a study that found people spent 46.9 per cent of their waking hours thinking about something other than what they were currently doing. And this mind-wandering was associated with lower happiness.
This unhappiness then led to more mind-wandering, trapping people in a vicious cycle.
Here’s where I am applying this to lifting weights.
I have seen this time and time again with clients, and in my own life, that lifting weights, helps you live in the present.
So many times clients come in, distracted because they are worrying something that has just happened or may happen.
Without exception, they leave feeling less stressed than when they arrived.
There is something about the process and repetitive nature of resistance training that helps focus a wandering mind.
You are just too busy concentrating on technique, effort, reps, sets to think about anything else.
More than ever, clients tell me they need their lifting sessions for their mental health.
So if you’ve paused your wandering mind for 60 sessions to watch this video, then maybe it’s time to try it for yourself.

Are you a woman in your 50s or above who wants to start lifting weights but worries about struggling or looking stupid?
This is a totally valid emotion, particularly if you’ve either never done resistance training before or not for a long time.
You keep saying you’ll start doing something at home to get a bit stronger before you join a gym. But you don’t have a clue where to start.
I’ve got you!
Here are three exercises you can do at home for a few weeks that will give you confidence to take the next step and get yourself into a gym.
Week 1: Perform 10 repetitions of each exercise twice a week.
Week 2: Do the same thing but three times a week.
Week 3: Do the same but up it to three sets, three times a week.
Then give me a call and we’ll get you into the gym, adding some weight to those movements! 💪
