Oilseed r**e might be one of the most visible crops in the UK at this time of year, but it’s also incredibly versatile.

So what is it used for?
✔️ Cooking oil - one of the most common uses
✔️ Animal feed - using the by-products after oil extraction
✔️ Biofuels - supporting renewable energy production
✔️ Industrial uses - including lubricants and other products

It’s a great example of how one crop can support multiple industries, from food production to sustainability.

We recently supported a well-established farming family in Leicestershire, managing a large-scale operation, with funding for a significant machinery purchase.

The requirement was to acquire a Claas forager, a key piece of equipment for the business, at a time when lending rates were moving rapidly due to wider market uncertainty.

Working closely with both the client and funder, we were able to secure a competitive hire purchase facility over a five-year term, ensuring the investment could move forward with confidence and certainty.

Projects like this highlight the importance of acting at the right time and having the right support in place, particularly when market conditions are shifting.

A great result for the client and a pleasure to support a long-standing farming business with their ongoing investment plans.

Cereals 2026 starts today 🌾

The ISC Future Finance team is looking forward to spending the next two days at Cereals 2026, meeting farmers, suppliers, advisers and industry professionals from across the UK.

As one of the key events in the agricultural calendar, Cereals provides a great opportunity to see the latest developments in arable farming, machinery, technology and sustainable agriculture, while catching up on the topics that matter most to the industry.

We're looking forward to some great conversations around farm investment, renewables, infrastructure projects and the opportunities businesses are exploring throughout 2026.

Most importantly, it's a chance to catch up with familiar faces, meet new people and spend time out in the industry we support every day.

Supporting a farming partnership with flexible working capital 💚

We recently supported a large farming partnership in Lincolnshire, made up of five partners, with funding to support a range of on-farm requirements.

Introduced by their accountants, the client needed to raise working capital without securing against land or other assets. We arranged an unsecured facility through the Government’s Growth Guarantee Scheme with Close Brothers, providing additional comfort to the lender while keeping the structure flexible for the business.

The process involved several key stages and mandatory documentation, and we worked closely with the client throughout to ensure everything progressed smoothly.

The result is that funding has been secured and released, allowing the business to move forward with confidence.

A positive outcome and a pleased client at the end of the process 🌱
