3D Printed POS Ski Binders – A Precision Challenge! 🎿🚀

This project was trickier than it looked... here’s why 👇

Our client needed 3D Printed ski binders—but not just any design. These had to be:
✅ Visually realistic but not direct copies (to avoid copyright issues)�✅ Clean, crisp white with no visible seams�✅ Lightweight and easy to print with minimal supports�✅ Subtle enough to let the skis (the real stars of the POS display) shine

We partnered closely with their designers to develop a solution that was cost-effective, scalable, and ready for batch production with hundreds of pairs needed in a tight timeframe.

To achieve this, 3D Printing LEEDS:
• Prototyped multiple versions for client approval
• Developed a custom jig for accurate final assembly
• Optimised print settings to reduce visible layer lines

The result? A sleek, realistic prop that looked the part without stealing the spotlight from the skis themselves. 🎯

3D Printed Prototypes of Aluminium Extrusions – A Precision Challenge! 🚀

This project wasn’t as simple as it might seem!.. read on ...

Typically, creating an extrusion involves importing the profile into CAD and using a simple extrusion process, but for this prototype, the precision required was 0.08mm. This level of detail is tricky for FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling), and while resin printing can achieve higher precision, it runs the risk of shrinkage and warping during the curing process.

Our solution?
We chose FDM printing and fine-tuned the CAD model to achieve the tight tolerances needed for this specific aluminium extrusion. After 7 iterations, we nailed it!
