Wiring Wednesday: Why Hardwiring Your Home is a Game-Changer and it doesnt have to be on show

We all love the convenience of WiFi, but when it comes to fast, reliable connections, nothing beats a good old-fashioned cable! Whether you're streaming your favourite shows, working from home, or enjoying multi-room audio, hardwiring your home can make a world of difference.

🔹 Faster & More Reliable Internet – A wired connection (like Cat6 or Cat6a Ethernet) can deliver speeds up to 10 Gbps, compared to WiFi which can slow down due to interference, thick walls, or even the neighbours' networks!

🔹 No More Buffering or Dropouts – Ever had your Netflix freeze mid-movie or an important Zoom call cut out? Wired connections are rock-solid, meaning fewer disruptions and no lag.

🔹 Seamless Multi-Room Audio & Video – Love the idea of music playing throughout your home or having Sky Q or Apple TV in multiple rooms without lag? Hardwiring ensures everything stays in sync without WiFi struggling to keep up.

🔹 Better for Smart Homes – With more gadgets connected than ever, from security cameras to smart lighting, a wired backbone takes the pressure off WiFi, keeping everything running smoothly.

🔹 Allows all equipment to be centralised leaving a clutter free entertaining area or living area.

💡 The Bottom Line? If you're renovating, extending, or just want the best home setup, consider running cables where you can. Your future self (and your WiFi) will thank you!

Its Mount Monday if that's a thing

Here are some top tips for a successful TV wall mounting:

1. **Choose the Right Mount:**
Ensure your wall mount is compatible with your TV’s VESA pattern, weight, and size. Consider whether you need a fixed, tilting, full-motion, or motorised mount based on your room layout and viewing angle.

2. **Assess Your Wall:**
Identify your wall type—brick, concrete, stud, or plasterboard—and select appropriate fixings. For stud walls, use a stud finder or magnet to locate the wooden beams; for brick or concrete walls, ensure you’re anchoring into solid brick (not just the mortar).

3. **Gather the Right Tools:**
Essential tools include a drill, level, stud finder or magnet, screwdriver, tape measure, and appropriate wall anchors or bolts. Pre-drill pilot holes with the correct drill bit size to avoid damaging the wall.

4. **Plan the Placement:**
Measure carefully to determine the ideal mounting height (usually at eye level when seated) and ensure the TV’s center aligns with your viewing position. Use a pencil and level to mark where the holes will go.

5. **Manage Cables Early:**
Connect all cables (HDMI, power, etc.) before mounting the TV, and plan for cable management—using cable clips, covers, or even in-wall cable kits—to keep the setup clean and clutter-free.

6. **Enlist Help:**
TVs can be heavy and awkward. Always have someone assist you during installation to ensure safe handling and proper alignment.

7. **Double-Check Your Work:**
After installing the mount, perform a “pull test” on the bracket to confirm it’s secure before attaching your TV. Tighten all fastenings once you’re sure of the mount’s stability.

Following these tips will help you achieve a secure, aesthetically pleasing installation and an optimal viewing experience.

Here are some we did earlier, get in touch if you would like a TV mounting with a great professional finish.
