Passers by found a man who had collapsed on the side of the Grains Gill path south of Stockley Bridge, above Seathwaite in Borrowdale. The man had set off walking before sunrise having left home some two hours earlier and had climbed Great End. On his descent he began to feel light-headed and weak and was forced to stop. Thanks to the walkers who stopped to help and gave the man food and drink. Another walker managed to get a phone signal to call 999 and ask for mountain Rescue. On arrival the team assessed the man before stretchering him down to Seathwaite Farm to await an ambulance for onward transfer to hospital.

A group of four fell runners were ascending Grey Knotts from Honister en route to Great Gable when one of them started having a seizure, and was confused. Helimed was tasked and two trucks despatched from base to assist with a potential stretcher carry from steep ground to a landing place. In the event, the casualty was walked off by helimed staff and transferred by helicopter to the land ambulance on the Honister road. The woman was then taken to West Cumberland Hospital for further checks.

A Father’s Day outing took an unexpected turn at Powter How wood when a wheelchair user fell from his electric 4×4 wheelchair after hitting a rock on the trail. Fortunately, the man escaped the tumble completely uninjured, though the family was left with a bit of a Father’s Day mishap to look back on. Because the accompanying party were unable to lift him back into the chair, team members were called to the scene. Team members safely transferred him back into his chair, allowing the family to successfully continue on their way.
