Winlinton Wolves AFC
Wolves looked to get back to winning ways yesterday, with a much changed squad and three new players, in a home league game against Kilmarnock United.
The first 25mins of game were very even with both teams having half chances but not many threats. Then a long ball by Chris Galloway was picked up by Tam McPhee and he beat one defender and his shot was well saved by the keeper.
This seemed to spur Wolves on and 5mins later a quick free kick by Matty Robson was taken first time by Adam Boyd and his shot ended up in the corner of the net, 1-0. Wolves pushed on for the rest of the half and were unlucky not to go two up when Boyd picked up a loose ball 20 yards out and shot first time just over the bar.
The second half started with Killie coming more into the game and within 5mins a neat one two on the edge of the Wolves box saw their sub strike low into the corner to make it 1-1. Wolves fought back and after 55 mins should have went in front again when a corner was met by a good header by Galloway but was inches wide.
Against the run of play it was Killie who were to took the lead when a cross was met by their forward who’s header slipped passed Logan Pipe in goals. Wolves were then to find themselves down to 10 men when two poor tackles by McCormick were rightly punished with two yellow cards.
Wolves did not let this deter them and they pushed for an equaliser but by doing this they left gaps at the back and were punished twice in the last 5mins when Killie United scored late goals to make it 1-4.
Wolves performed a lot better than in previous weeks and worked hard for each other for the 90mins but indiscipline was to cost them again.
Winlinton Wolves start their League campaign away to Kilmarnock United today. Let’s start with a win. C’mon the Wolves 🐺👍
