We love being a part of the Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce community, and we are especially proud that our Chair of the Board of Trustees, Robert Kernaghan will be sharing his insights at the next meeting this July. The evening is dedicated to an important topic: how recruiting more inclusively can benefit your business bottom line while tackling local recruitment challenges. Alongside speakers from the British Army and North Yorkshire Council, Robert will be discussing how businesses can unlock the potential of talented, dedicated people who are ready to work but often face unintended barriers to employment.

This event is a fantastic opportunity for Harrogate professionals to gather, learn and discover how a more diverse workforce can build stronger, more resilient teams. It also highlights the core of what we do at Disability Action Yorkshire. We firmly believe in creating opportunities that benefit the entire community, meaning our expertise is available to everyone. Whether you are a business needing practical advice on inclusive hiring practices, or a disabled individual looking for the training and confidence to enter the workforce, we are here to help you succeed.

Book your place through the Chamber website today and join us for an evening that proves inclusive employment is a win for everyone.

Did you know your pre-used mobility aid is a lifeline for someone else?

At Disability Action Yorkshire, we believe in a circular economy of care. We gratefully accept donations of mobility equipment and then provide these items, completely free of charge, to people in our community who desperately need them.

Imagine someone whose wheelchair has broken unexpectedly, or a person needing a walking frame for a short recovery period. Your donation means they can continue to live independently and participate in life without unnecessary worry.

By donating, you're not just clearing space - you're recirculating independence and making a tangible difference.

We accept: Walking frames, crutches, wheelchairs, walking sticks, and more.

Drop off at: Unit i4a, Hornbeam Park Oval, Harrogate, HG2 8RB (what3words: soon.banana.divide).

Thank you for helping us put good equipment to great use!

It is always wonderful to see national attention brought to the vital importance of making our beautiful countryside accessible to everyone. A recent BBC News article highlighted the ongoing conversations and crucial work being done to break down barriers in rural spaces, ensuring that wheelchair users, those with mobility aids, and families with prams can experience the health and wellbeing benefits of nature without facing impassable obstacles.

At Disability Action Yorkshire, our core philosophy is rooted in "solution-finding," which is why we are such passionate champions of the Miles without Stiles initiative across our region. This fantastic programme focuses on removing traditional stiles, replacing them with accessible gates, and levelling out rough terrain to create well-managed, barrier-free walking routes across North Yorkshire's stunning landscapes.

True inclusion means that access shouldn't stop where the pavement ends. Projects like these prove that with thoughtful planning and community support, we can preserve the natural beauty of our environment while ensuring it is fully inclusive for disabled people and their support networks.

Whether you are looking to plan an accessible day out or want to discover a new trail to explore, we highly recommend checking out the local routes available.

Our "solution-finding" approach ensures that every customer receives the exact support they need to achieve their personal goals and live an independent life of their own choosing. Let’s use this week to listen to these voices and continue building a truly inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
