Strategy holds so much power to your success as you have thought about where you are going and created a plan. A plan provides focus and direction for you so there is no guessing about what you are doing.

And - the really beauty of a plan it frees you up as you stop worrying and enjoy the tasks you know you are doing at the right time to move your forward.

Today is International Women's Day and I could have spent time finding a witty and inspiring quote but then I took a step back and thought about how I live my life.

I was brought up to believe you can do anything you put your mind to.

I was scoring at cricket at 13, which may seem odd now but when I was young, girls never did it.

At 16 I joined the local scuba diving club and was the only girl there.
I was the only girl in some of my A level classes.

I did civil engineering at university and there were 3 females in a class of 30. In fact there was probably only 5% of women in the whole academic faculty.

At 19 I worked on a sewage treatment building site as an engineer. With the wind and rain, the mud and smell and was asked why I wanted to be do this rather than be a nurse, inside in the warmth.

I have continued to choose the path I want to take, without my gender holding me back.

Not everyone is able to choose their path as freely as I have been and there are many hurdles before we have a truly gender equal world.

But just imagine what a gender equal world looks like.

A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Nad for me that is why we have a day to celebrate women and all they can and should be able to achieve.

Is financial planning for when you have money coming into your business?

Not at all. Knowing exactly how much money is going out and coming in or not coming in is crucial.

Waiting until you are an established business with money coming in before you establish financial planing is just madness.

Madness because when you are starting out money is probably tight and the last thing you want to be doing is overspending where you don't have to.

You can also use financial planning to forecast leaner months and identify where you could add in another programme or promote an evergreen course more to increase revenue.

As you progress knowing your financial situation allows you to identify when you could outsource or bring in a member of staff. You can model what the next year could look like.

And best of all it allows you to create a financial forecast of what you war aiming to achieve and there is nothing better than writing down your goals and keeping on top of where you are in actually are in achieving them.
