Just saying ... ! Interesting to be reminded of what the country was told just 2 years ago but chose to ignore. We get what we deserve.

Surrey County Council launches new service to help carers maximise their income.
The County Council has launched a new free service to help carers identify all the financial support available to them and make sure they are maximising savings and benefits they may be entitled to.
The confidential advice line is funded by the county council and delivered by the Surrey Welfare Rights Unit (SWRU). SWRU is a Woking-based charity and member of Citizens Advice. They specialise in giving independent guidance on welfare benefits and related issues
Caring can affect people’s finances. This is not just due to the extra costs that can come with supporting someone, but also because carers sometimes need to move away from full-time employment.
The new income maximisation service ensures Surrey’s 90,000+ unpaid carers can access clear, expert and impartial guidance to strengthen their financial wellbeing, both online and over the phone.
Carers will work with specialist advisors and receive personalised strategies to build their understanding of the financial help available and how to access it. The tailored guidance covers such areas as:
- Money advice
- Debt support/referral to specialist services
- Energy advice
- Charging policies
- Grant opportunities
- Benefits advice, including entitlement checks, form completion where needed, and support with challenges or appeals
-Carers in crisis or those with more complex and urgent needs will be prioritised.
Carers can sometimes miss out on support, especially in the early stages when they may not yet see themselves as carers. Our goal is to promote carers’ rights and make sure those who support others get the help they need.
The income maximisation service helps carers make the most of their finances. By learning about the sources of support available, carers can be assured they’re accessing every opportunity they’re entitled to.
Maria Zealey, Chief Officer for SWRU, added: “We are committed to helping Surrey carers avoid debt and poverty-related issues. The benefits system is complex, but our skilled advisers are here to help.”
The income maximisation service can be reached directly by calling 01483 492 939 or emailing [email protected]. Hearing-impaired residents using textphones or the Relay app should call 18001 01483 492 939.
More sources of benefit advice and other support can be found on the ‘Help for carers’ webpage on the Surrey County Council website.

Already more than bored of this Labour so called "leadership" drama - how it is entertaining to watch mediocre people like Andy Burnham, Ed Miliband and Keir Starmer fight it out to see how they can offer their lefties more goodies to vote for them whilst in the meanwhile all hard working people get screwed by their tax rises, inflation and the fact that they are bringing back the principle of Digital ID as outlined in the King's Speech despite THREE MILLION Brits signing a petition against it, as well as removing the right to a jury trial also in the King's Speech.
I await the by-election, hopefully to see Reform win , and Andy Burnham looking very upset. In the meanwhile we get endless news of Andy, Ed and Keir, Wes and Angela, which is beyond dull but also totally embarrassing on the world stage. None will be better than Starmer, as they are all losers.
