This week in the office, we’ve mostly been talking about HMRC 🏢 To be fair, we quite often talk about HMRC - never in a good way!

We’ve spent hours photocopying and collating hundreds of documents 📑 because HMRC - the very people who want everyone to do everything digitally 💻 wouldn’t accept them scanned and emailed.

That got us thinking about Making Tax Digital which comes into effect on 6 April 2026 📅 for some self-employed people and landlords. You may have already had a letter from them if your turnover was more than £45,000 💷 last year.

It’s not something you can leave until the last minute ⏳, so start looking at your systems now. Talk to your accountant or bookkeeper if you use one, and make sure you’re organised ✅ because, as ever with HMRC, there could be penalties if you’re not ⚠️
