On Tuesday 70 Year 10 GCSE Geography students enjoyed a fieldwork visit into Exeter town and Dawlish Warren, collecting primary data to support their GCSE fieldwork, and their Paper 3 exam.
In Exeter city centre, students explored the impact of the Princesshay regeneration project by carrying out environmental quality surveys, pedestrian counts and traffic surveys. They discovered how the redevelopment has transformed the area, creating attractive public spaces, pedestrian-friendly streets and beautiful green spaces filled with colourful flowers and hanging baskets. πΈ
The group then travelled to Dawlish Warren, where they investigated the process of longshore drift. Using biodegradable oranges to track sediment movement and measuring sand levels around groynes, students gathered clear evidence showing that longshore drift is moving sediment from west to east along the coastline. ππ
It was a fantastic day of hands on learning, giving students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in the real world πβοΈ
