Calico Angels

This was the first doll I was asked to make from a small business card graphic. The finished doll was almost a metre tall. It was the first time I had to make clothes from a drawing, the folk art style doll clothes are usually very simple basic shapes or just strips of fabric made into skirts with simple gathering. It was a huge undertaking and I seem to remember that the hair took 3 balls of yarn. I must have sewn hundreds of individual strands on. The face is embroidered on, she looked exactly like the picture, which I stupidly did not keep! Very intense experience which pushed my skills at the time but hugely rewarding to have produced such a unique doll x

All lined up for today's project. Strings of hearts. It takes me more time to choose fabrics for these than it does to sew them! Maybe I should have a box of scraps and pull out pieces blindfolded, like a raffle, to choose them?x
