This little beauty - and its joyous if strange asymmetrical backing -is now all ready for loading on my long arm. That can be tomorrow’s enjoyable task.

I’ve cut new stencils, put a new blade in the rotary cutter and created a colour chart.

A colour chart is such a simple way of keeping track of which fabric is which and goes where, especially at the beginning of a project when you’re still new to what you’re planning. It takes ten minutes and saves a lot of wear later on the unpicker!

I’m ready to start cutting. Ooh this is exciting. I love this stage.

I’ve ruffled and riffled my way through my very full fabric cupboard and found these delicious, buttery, summery yellows.

Aren’t they just joyous together?
