We're very grateful 🙏🏻 that we've been able to dig deep into local history thanks to a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund that has funded a new research and community project: Saving Halberton’s Ancient Roman Environment (SHARE),

SHARE is being led by University of Exeter archaeologists in partnership with Devon County Council, Tiverton Archaeology Group, Sampford Peverell Society, and Cotswold Archaeology who are working together to excavate a rare Roman villa in Devon containing archaeologically significant mosaics.

In this first year of the project, we have already completed a two-week evaluation excavation, supported by volunteers from local societies and the community, who have helped to uncover archaeology in two more trial trenches. Exeter archaeology students have also been working at the site for the last four weeks, and further volunteer-led excavations at the site will begin soon.

Many thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for all its support, and to all of the organisations and volunteers involved in making this project possible. We look forward to hearing of any future discoveries.
