Exeter Chimney Sweeps
21/12/2019
Following a call for a Carbon Monoxide Alarm this week which turned out to be a genuine CO build up in the house caused by a crack in the rear of a Stove we ask everybody to regularly check your stove for cracks and make sure all the fittings are tight and there are no gaps and of course that your stove flue is cleaned regularly by a competent chimney sweep.
In this instance the occupant was lucky they had a working CO Alarm fitted and they recognised the signs and symptoms of possible CO poisoning and alerted us immediately, opened all the windows and doors, extinguished the fire in the stove and got some fresh air.
If you suspect that you or someone in your home may be suffering from exposure to carbon monoxide, go outside or where there is plenty of ventilation and contact emergency services immediately. The following are common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning:
• A headache
• Fatigue
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Shortness of breath
• Disorientation
• Vomiting
• Loss of consciousness
Please share and be Carbon Monoxide aware.
