Was was invited down to in st Ives to try out their brunch, their vibes, and their all round fantastic service.

On an absolutely beautiful day like the one we were blessed with, this place felt more like a paradise off the coast of a European seaside resort. Big open windows, airy and light and artwork galore has really revamped and brought the Taproom back into modern day society. To match this, I was welcome with the most warm of hellos by the staff as I walked in, who were smiley, chatty and incredibly hospitable.

We sat and order drinks, scanned the very honest and varied menu, which for me had everything you could ever want. The menu is due a summer change in a few weeks, but a lot of the favourite are staying, so I’m stoked to see that.

I ordered the Full English, and Amy the Turkish Eggs (a bold move for her but one that payed off - she loved it!). The chefs in the small, hustlin’ and bustlin’ kitchen have done themselves proud with what I must declare as ‘the cleanest, most modern, most correct full English’ I’ve had in ages. No mushrooms in sight 🙏🏼. The home cured, thick cut bacon, which I expected to be slightly tough or chewy, melted in my mouth and had incredible flavour, of which salt was not one. The layered potato terrine, as you can here, crisp on the outside, delicate in the centre. It was so good, I had to share it with my wife (apparently?). The Cumberland Ring is a much welcomed treat, perfectly fried egg with a heap of chives on the yolk, à la bosh. Big shout for buttering the toast. You’d be amazed how many places don’t.

Having been back open as this new-gen, food and drink focussed venue for 11 months, I’ve got to say, I can understand why Robin () is so proud of his team. We spent some time chatting and I could feel the pride bursting from him as he explained how his chefs have control of the menu, likewise with the bar staff and drinks, the local artists who feature on the walls, how the whole place has come together in unity to create something mesmerising.
