Beautifully Covered

A Muslim wedding, or Nikah, is a sacred covenant and spiritual partnership before Allah. It is based on mutual consent, the giving of Mahr (a gift from the groom to the bride), the presence of two Muslim witnesses, and a marriage contract, often officiated by an imam.
During the Nikah, verses from the Qur'an are recited and prayers are offered for the couple's happy and blessed future together.

Food is an important part of the celebration, symbolising hospitality, community, and joy. Traditional sweets such as baklava and nut-and-honey desserts represent sweetness in the couple's married life, while the bride dipping her feet in water symbolises purity.

We are so grateful to have been part of Noor and Alex's special days and to have learned more about the beautiful traditions of Islamic wedding ceremonies.
