Very grateful to the Sport & Exercise professionals who joined me last night to discuss solution focused conversation skills in the briefest of conversations. 🙏
We dived into the importance of listening out for subtle clues of the person's strengths, resilience and hopes, despite the significant challenges they may be facing. 👂
And from the tiniest of clues, building on it through the questions we ask. ❓
I love this stuff.
Day in day out, I'm awe struck by what people describe to me.
From how they're coping with what life's given them to what their hopes would look like tomorrow, in the tiniest and actionable of details.
Sometimes, if you watch and listen carefully, the person talking to you isn't the same person who first walked in. They've transformed in some way.
It's like they become more aware of their strengths, resources, and resilience. They grow in stature. Their motivation is lighting up. Hope is brewing.
All I've done is listen, and ask questions that I hope will help.
Every. Moment. Matters.
I'm wondering, when have you been awe struck by another person's change, in the briefest of times? What did you notice about the process?

Suppose an athlete says this to you, in passing, as you walk down the corridor. What do you hear in this statement? What do you want to say or ask the athlete?
'With that competition just a few weeks away, I get so frustrated with myself when I have those training sessions where I don't do as well as I know I can. Sometimes I'm able to turn those sessions around and really make them count but other times they just get me down. I just want to be at my best for it and can get worried that all this effort over the years could be for nothing.'

Check out my new blog on the website (link in the bio).
In it, I talk about the important role of being sensitive to hope in dark times. But importantly, in a way that honours the current pain of the other person.
Check it out 👊
To experience emotions is to be human.
How we understand and relate to our emotions impacts our ability to show up, perform and grow.
But how willing are we to experience those difficult, uncomfortable emotions? How much do we listen to them? Or are they pushed away? Ignored? Suppressed? Or magic'd away by a symptom-reducing mind trick?
We ignore them at our peril.
What if we approached all emotions as messengers? Signals of when our needs and values are being met or not? What becomes possible when we allow these emotions and their meanings to percolate into our life?
