We are delighted that the German Ambassador Susanne Baumann came to visit Scotland this week.

As part of her programme, she met with First Minister John Swinney in Edinburgh. They discussed the opportunities to deepen our excellent cooperation – from economy, energy to technology and culture.

The cities of Augsburg and Inverness are commemorating 70 years of their twinning this year! 🥳

To mark this significant milestone, a delegation from Inverness recently travelled to the German city of Augsburg in Bavaria. The festivities, which coincided with Europe Day, brought together citizens, city representatives and higher education institutions from both cities.

The delegation’s visit facilitated a rich professional exchange – with a particular emphasis on green hydrogen. Both cities are a perfect match when it comes to this: Scotland's capacity for green hydrogen production and Augsburg's advanced technologies and expertise in developing resilient energy systems.
A pivotal moment in the celebrations was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of the Highlands and Islands and the University of Augsburg as well as the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. This new cooperation aims to foster collaborative research on hydrogen-based resilient energy systems, joint research projects and study programmes, student and researcher exchanges and the sharing of knowledge in innovative technologies that are crucial for the future.
