Sever’s disease is another type of traction apophysitis.
🦶All growing children have growth plates, soft areas of cartilage where bone growth occurs, in their heels and at the ends of several other bones.
🦶The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscles to the growth plate in the back of the heel.
🦶Because bones often grow faster than muscle, especially in the bones of the foot, the Achillies heel can be prone to tightness
🦶Sever’s disease occurs when activities like running/jumping cause the already tight Achilles tendon to pull on and irritate the heel bone growth plate.
🦶This causes pain and inflammation in the heel.
Physiotherapists have the knowledge and skill in the management of Traction Apophysitis.
If your child is struggling with heel pain, book in today for assessment and advice with us. Availability every Saturday morning 🤸♂️
