The Docious Dog

Just to let you know that Missy & I are being interviewed as part of a St Columba’s fundraiser, 3pm this Saturday with regard to our Therapet volunteering experiences. The mammoth 48 hr non stop stream is all organised by the very affable geeky computer gamer / streamer Liam & I fully expect some of his nerdy followers will be requesting tricks by Missy & possibly her bodily fluff removed in exchange for their cash, but hey it’s all for a good cause… Watch on TWITCH/TV/DOCY93….

Jeeeso it’s nippy out there today & forecast over the next few days, with temps in Edinburgh unlikely to rise above 0. (Can’t help thinking a flight to Rwanda @ circa 25 degrees doesn’t seem particularly unattractive today…) But, back to point, what temperature can a dog’s paws get frostbite? Your dog is at risk once the temperature falls below 0 Celsius/32 degrees Fahrenheit. As a general rule, a large cold-weather breed will likely enjoy a 30-minute walk in the snow, possibly longer, but smaller/short-haired breeds/recently defurred Trinity cockapoos really shouldn't walk outside barefoot for 15-20 minutes at most. Just like humans, frostbite is a dog's natural process where blood is redirected from the body's extremities, paws, ears, tail etc. to vital organs when there is a drop in body temperature. This protects the organs but puts those wee extremities at risk. Hence, no excuses from me today to stop to take all dogs for a wee warm up cafe break, prob Iona or Mr Eion mid walk, & an extra careful paw rub down & ear rub after…. Take care out there…
