We have our annual close down during the month of August whilst everyone, including the coaches, can spend a bit of time away on holiday with the family.

In September we have decided to change the second Friday session and make it open to seniors as well just like the Monday session. Therefore, the second session will be for the 10 years to senior age bracket.

On July 25th we have the annual summer training day held by Will Hickman's "Wiltshire Judo" for children aged 5 years to 13.

On August 8th, Devizes Judo Club will be appearing at Seend Fete. This fete is possibly the biggest in Wiltshire and regularly attracts 1000 to 1500 people.

Devizes x Mayenne Twinning 2026 🇬🇧🇫🇷

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting ten visitors from our twin town of Mayenne, France.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the long-standing twinning partnership between Devizes and Mayenne—a tradition we are incredibly proud to be part of.

On Saturday, we held a two-hour judo training session with over 60 people on the mat. Coaches from both Devizes and Mayenne each took part by teaching a technique, while Evan Molloy shared his Paralympic expertise on gripping. The session was a fantastic success, with plenty of smiles at the end and a great opportunity for everyone to learn from one another.

After training, we headed to Bromham Carnival to give our French guests a real taste of life in the West Country.

In the evening, we attended the Devizes Twinning Celebration, where more than 200 people from Mayenne, Devizes and Waiblingen came together to celebrate this special milestone. The evening featured a live orchestra made up of musicians from all three towns, making it a truly memorable occasion.

On Sunday, we enjoyed a trip to Longleat Safari Park. Despite the extremely hot weather, everyone had a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

To round off the weekend, we all met at Woodlands Pizza, where everyone enjoyed some of their fantastic pizzas and spent more time together before saying goodbye.

On Monday morning, our French friends departed Devizes after a wonderful weekend, having created memories and, hopefully, friendships that will last a lifetime.

The annual twinning event with Mayenne is something we are extremely proud to be involved in. It strengthens the bonds between our communities through sport, culture and friendship, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come.

What a great two hour session! 61 Judoka on the mat going through various judo techniques as well as a bit of Aikido. As well as judoka from our twinning club JudoClub Mayennais, we also had judoka from Swindon Judo Club and from Will Hickman's schools in Salisbury, Pewsey, Urchfont, Great Cheverell and Corsham schools. Lots of fun training with new people no matter the language barrier all completed with the customary group photo. 🥋🥋
