A closer look at our recent work at the University of Northumbria building, MEA House for ...
Above shows the Revit model we made from the Topographical Survey our team conducted, allowing the data to be easily integrated into BIM while providing a seamless visual representation for the full combined model.
For projects like this, accurate information early on can make a huge difference to planning, design efficiency, and decision making.
It’s always great seeing survey data brought to life in a model like this!

Looking back at this Point Cloud collaboration with Novum BIM:
The client had this staircase prefabbed in another country, and only noticed that its measurements were not up to UK standards once it was on site and being used.
The survey found that the riser heights on each flight ranged from:
Flight 1 - 150-296mm
Flight 2 - 151-227mm
Flight 3 - 156-237mm
The UK Standard for riser height on semi-public access stairs is a maximum of 170mm.
We also found that the tread depths on each flight ranged from:
Flight 1 - 216-340mm
Flight 2 - 235-285mm
Flight 3 - 247-256mm
The UK Standard for tread depth on semi-public access stairs is a minimum of 250mm.
This survey is one of the best examples to show that cutting costs in the beginning often costs you more in the long-run. The cost of that survey you think is unnecessary, is worth it.
