Parenting a child with ADHD is a marathon — not a sprint. But sometimes, it’s the smallest shifts that make the biggest difference. Here are micro-habits that have transformed our daily rhythm (and my sanity):
 1. Deep breaths before I respond.
 2. A visible checklist for the morning routine.
 3. 5-minute reset timers after school.
 4. Laying out tomorrow’s clothes the night before.
 5. Post-it notes on the fridge with what is going well.
 6. Saying “I’m here” instead of jumping to fix.
 7. Using “first-then” language.
 8. Weekly teacher check-ins (even when things are fine).
 9. Choosing connection before correction.
 10. Giving transitions a 2-minute heads-up.
 11. Modeling a do-over: “Let’s try that again together.”
 12. Declaring “calm corners,” not “time outs.”
 13. Starting the day with water (for both of us).
 14. Quiet breakfasts = less cortisol.
 15. Using visual timers instead of verbal nagging.
 16. Letting music guide cleanup time.
 17. Repeating “They’re not giving me a hard time, they’re having a hard time.”
 18. Validating emotions before redirecting behavior.
 19. Moving homework to the floor.
 20. Avoiding open-ended questions during transitions.
 21. Giving choices between 2 “yes” options.
 22. Talking less, doing more with them.
 23. Scheduling in margin — not just activities.
 24. Celebrating small wins (like actually finishing breakfast).
 25. Ending the day with a sensory moment — snuggle, stretch, or story.
 26. Putting fewer things on our to-do list.
 27. Practicing one skill at a time (not everything at once).
 28. Letting go of “should.”
 29. Remembering: progress, not perfection.

✨ Every one of these habits came from trial, error, and a whole lot of real-life mess.

Inside Quiet the Chaos, I give you a step-by-step plan to build the kind of routines, strategies, and confidence that support your ADHD child and help you breathe again.
