Day 1 | Learning with Ajrakh Artisan Sufiyan Khatri
There is something truly powerful about learning directly from the hands that have preserved a craft for generations.
Today, our community had the privilege of beginning an inspiring journey with Ajrakh artisan Sufiyan Khatri, exploring the rich heritage of Ajrakh—an intricate tradition of hand block printing with natural dyes that has been passed down through generations.
From understanding the symbolism behind Ajrakh’s geometric patterns to discovering the remarkable 14–18 stage process involving resist printing, natural dyeing, indigo, and madder, Day 1 reminded us that every handcrafted textile carries stories of culture, patience, and deep knowledge.
What made today’s session especially meaningful was not just learning about a craft, but creating a space where artisans, makers, designers, and curious minds could come together to exchange ideas, ask questions, and celebrate traditional knowledge.
Building a stronger craft ecosystem begins with conversations, shared experiences, and learning from the communities who keep these traditions alive.
We’re excited for the days ahead and grateful to Sufiyan for generously sharing his knowledge and passion with us.
Here’s to preserving heritage, inspiring innovation, and strengthening our creative community—together.
