DJ Goldie, is a British musician, DJ, actor, and visual artist famous for pioneering drum and bass music. After starting as a graffiti artist and breakdancer, he gained fame with his 1995 album Timeless, which became the first platinum-selling drum and bass album. In addition to his music career, he is also a successful actor and founded the influential Metalheadz record label.
Early life and career beginnings
Born in Walsall, England, in 1965, he was put up for adoption as a child and raised in foster homes.
He began his artistic career as a graffiti artist in the West Midlands, moving to New York for a time to work as a graffiti artist and sell custom gold teeth.
Upon returning to England, he became immersed in the breakbeat and hip-hop scenes, forming a breakdancing crew called the Wild Criminals.
By the early 1990s, he was involved in the nascent jungle and drum and bass scene, eventually becoming a DJ.
Musical career
His breakthrough came with the 1995 album Timeless, a 21-minute symphonic piece that fused breakbeats with orchestral elements.
He founded the Metalheadz record label in 1994, which became a defining force in the drum and bass genre.
He has released several albums, including Saturnz Returns in 1998, and has collaborated on numerous other projects.
Goldie is also known for his work as a DJ, performing at global festivals and venues.
Acting and other work
Goldie has appeared in several major films, including The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Sn**ch (2000).
He also had a role in the TV show EastEnders.
More recently, he has ventured into modeling, making his catwalk debut for Louis Vuitton.
