The DVSA have released a new update regarding tachograph requirements changes for international journey light goods vehicles over 2.5 tonnes making UK to EU journeys for hire and reward.

From 1st July 2026, these light good vehicles will now require a smart tachograph 2 fitted, and will be required to comply with the assimilated drivers hours rules.

You will not need a smart tachograph 2 fitted if you have a vehicle, or vehicle and trailer combination which:
Is being used on an international journey for the driver or operator’s own account and driving does not constitute the driver’s main activity.
It weighs over 2.5 tonnes and less than 3.5 tonnes and is operating only within the UK.
