Huge shoutout to for an incredible first outing at HYROX Cardiff 👏

Rachel came to us with a really solid fitness foundation from years of consistently attending classes and circuit-based training, but with very little experience in Hyrox-specific movements… never mind taking on the men’s weights in mixed doubles.

Over the course of her training block, she completely transformed her confidence and movement quality. By the end of prep, she was moving brilliantly, attacking every session, and smashing out the men’s weights 💪

To then go and place 4th in their age group in their first mixed doubles event, missing out on a podium spot by just 20 seconds 👏🏼 What a massive achievement and a real reflection of the work she put in behind the scenes.

It’s also a reminder that you don’t need to be an elite athlete or have your whole life revolve around training to take on competitions like this. With some structure, consistency, and the right guidance, anyone can step outside their comfort zone and achieve something they’re proud of.

Matt Bailey, MSc leads OPH’s in-person health & wellbeing gym sessions. A competitive triathlete with over 10 years of training and racing experience, Matt combines academic knowledge with practical performance insight.

Holding a BSc in Sports & Exercise Science and an MSc in Sports Medicine, Matt applies evidence-based training and intelligent programming to help individuals build strength, resilience, and long-term fitness.

With over three years of coaching and personal training experience, he delivers structured, engaging sessions designed to support all levels, from beginners to performance-focused athletes.
