Been told your sciatica is "just your piriformis"? 🤔
It's become the catch-all label — a small muscle deep in your buttock, supposedly squashing the sciatic nerve and causing all your symptoms. But here's the question nobody asks: what did you actually do to injure that muscle? For most people, the honest answer is nothing.
That's the clue. Almost always the symptoms are coming from an irritated segment higher up in the lower back — commonly L5/S1 — referring the pain down the leg. The tight buttock is the consequence, not the cause.
Which is why hammering the glutes — deep release work, hours on a lacrosse ball — so often backfires, and can leave you with two problems instead of one.
Today we'll show you what's really going on, and what to do instead.
