Yes, hot tea can actually help you cool down in hot weather—but only under the right conditions!!

When you drink a hot beverage:

* Your body detects the increase in temperature and produces more sweat.
* If that sweat evaporates efficiently (for example, in a dry climate or if there’s a breeze), it removes heat from your body, leaving you cooler overall.

However:

* In hot, humid conditions, where sweat doesn’t evaporate well, hot tea is less likely to cool you down and may simply make you feel hotter.
* The cooling effect is usually small, so the main benefit is through increased sweating rather than the tea itself.

If your goal is staying cool:

* Stay well hydrated (water is still the best choice).
* Wear loose, breathable clothing.
* Seek shade and airflow, especially during the hottest part of the day.

So the idea that “hot tea cools you down” is based on real physiology, but it works best when your sweat can evaporate effectively.
