Another job which highlights the importance of talking to the experts. To many technicians this was simply a Clean. But that would not have given the customer a long term fix, and would have been deemed as a failed service.

The reason this Van had failed to regenerate (self-clean) its DPF was because of a failed Exhaust Temp Sensor. Professional diagnostics coupled with experience to validate that saved everybody time and money.

Without replacing it this the van would have ended up in the same situation within couple of weeks, blocked again.

🛑 BLOCKED DPF 2013 2.2L TRANSIT 🛑

One of our fellow network dealers had this Transit brought in by a local business, engine management light was on and had been diagnosed as a .
Straight away our dealer performed a diagnostics scan that confirmed high soot load in the DPF.

But, why?????? – That should always be the question.
A blocked DPF is usually a symptom of a problem, although could be down to style of driving.

From experience we as a network know that these Transits have vaporiser systems to heat the exhaust temperature during the regeneration process. Basically, a small pump, injector and glow plug just before the DPF.

They started the process of regeneration on the van BUT the highest the temp got it to was 485 degrees C. These vehicles need to hit at least 600 degrees C, to burn the soot off. The failure to achieve temperature meant it would not carry out a regeneration and thus was building up soot. This confirmed that the vaporiser was blocked, they quickly checked the pump - that was working fine. - Cause of problem established.
Action: New vaporiser ordered & fitted, DPF Cleaned, Transit taken for a good blast up the by-pass and then they performed a forced regeneration.

The soot-load on this transit was 147% when it went in to them, it left on 8%, and will now do its own regenerations as it should.

Had a technician without the knowledge simply the DPF or even worse in terms of cost fitted a DPF it too would have blocked, as the cause of the problem would not have been identified and fixed.
