This ad wasn't planned. We turned up this morning to film another ad, with the rain hammering down outside, we turned that into an opportunity too.

Bad weather keeping customers away isn't exactly a new problem for hospitality businesses. So rather than complain about it, we helped Big Mamma's Sandwich Club turn the moment into a message, reminding people that if they don't fancy heading out, they can order their food through one of the many food apps the business has partnered with.

Why Cardiff Advertising Co. Doesn't Obsess Over Metrics

I was having a conversation the other day with someone who was trying to work out exactly what makes Cardiff Advertising Co. tick.

Not what services we offer. That's easy enough to explain.

What they were trying to understand was the thinking behind it all, because if we're being honest, we don't operate like most marketing agencies.

The conversation eventually turned to data and metrics.

Views.

Reach.

Engagement.

Impressions.

Click-through rates.

The endless list of numbers that seem to dominate the marketing world these days.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not against data. It has its place and it can be useful. But somewhere along the line I think parts of the industry became more interested in measuring activity than measuring results.

A business owner doesn't wake up in the morning worrying about their engagement rate.

They're worrying about whether customers are going to walk through the door.

They're worrying about cashflow.

They're worrying about staff costs.

They're worrying about whether the business is growing.

I've seen campaigns that generated huge numbers online and achieved very little commercially. I've also seen campaigns that looked fairly ordinary on paper but delivered real results where it actually mattered.

That's why at Cardiff Advertising Co. we focus on the campaign first.

The idea.

The ex*****on.

The message.

The consistency.

The customer.

Everything else comes afterwards.

I think that's also why people sometimes struggle to put us in a box.

We're not purely a social media agency.

We're not purely a consultancy.

We're not purely a content production company.

We're usually somewhere in the middle of all three.

When we work with a business long-haul, we're often discussing operations, customer experience, branding, local reputation, promotions and growth opportunities long before we start talking about what gets posted on Facebook next Tuesday.

Marketing doesn't exist in isolation.

It's connected to everything else.

The businesses we tend to work best with are small businesses.

Not because they're small, but because they value practicality.

Most owners are already stretched thin. They're running the business, managing staff, dealing with suppliers, handling customers and trying to find time to have a life somewhere in between.

The last thing they need is a 40-page report full of graphs they never asked for.

And let's be honest, somebody has to pay for that time.

More meetings cost money.

More reporting costs money.

More admin costs money.

We've always preferred to strip as much of that away as possible and focus our energy where it creates the most value.

That approach allows us to work leaner than many traditional city agencies.

It allows us to move faster.

It allows us to spend more time actually doing the work.

Most importantly, it allows us to give small businesses access to a level of support that would normally sit well outside their budget.

At the end of the day, I don't think most business owners are looking for another marketing company.

They're looking for someone they can trust to help move the business forward.

That's always been the philosophy behind Cardiff Advertising Co.

Less noise.

Less fluff.

More results.

Branding isn't just what people see, it's what they remember.

As part of the ongoing brand progression for Top Deck Fish & Chips, we've developed a bespoke music track designed to create a stronger emotional connection with customers and reinforce brand recognition across potential future content.

Music has a unique ability to trigger memory and association. When a consistent sound becomes part of a brand's identity, it helps audiences instantly recognise, recall and connect with that business long after they've scrolled past a post or seen an advert.

This new audio identity gives Top Deck another powerful asset to use across social media, video content and future campaigns, helping turn attention into familiarity, and familiarity into loyalty.

Because the strongest brands aren't just seen. They're heard, remembered and felt.

At Cardiff Advertising Co., we make a habit of questioning trends. Our latest advert for Top Deck Fish & Chips in Cardiff is a classic example. No spinning graphics. No hyperactive transitions. No visual noise competing with the message.

Why? Because fish and chips are an institution in this country. They're familiar, trusted and steeped in tradition. If you're trying to build trust into a brand, sometimes the smartest thing you can do is create advertising that feels equally grounded.

Many of us will remember when the latest VHS editing effects first appeared. They were exciting, innovative and looked impressive at the time. But years later, it's worth asking whether they actually added anything of value to the message at all.

Modern day social media often presents the same challenge. Endless motion, rapid cuts and attention-grabbing effects have become so commonplace that audiences are becoming increasingly conditioned to ignore them.

Of course, we're perfectly capable of producing highly dynamic content when the brief calls for it. We can adapt to just about anything thrown at us. But throughout every project, there's always a question sitting quietly in the back of our minds... "Is this fit for purpose?"

It's a simple question, but one that cuts through trends, fashions and industry habits. Sometimes the right answer is fast-paced, energetic slides and packed with motion. Other times, as with this Top Deck Fish & Chips ad, the strongest approach is to keep things clean and easy to digest by the visual consumer.

Not every project needs to be overthought. Not every advert needs a dozen visual effects, endless revisions or hours spent chasing eye-candy for the sake of it.

Sometimes the objective is simply to communicate clearly and effectively. Time is valuable, both for us and our clients, and we'd rather spend that time delivering meaningful results across multiple projects than exhausting it on unnecessary embellishments that add little to the overall message.

Good advertising isn't about using every tool available. It's about knowing when not to.

Big Mamma's Sandwich Club Ranked No.1 in Cardiff Advertising Co.'s Social Media Benchmark Review

Cardiff Advertising Co. is proud to announce that Big Mamma's Sandwich Club has secured the top position in its latest Social Media Benchmark Review, a comparative assessment of social media performance across Cardiff's independent sandwich shop sector.

The review examined publicly available activity across major social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, evaluating a range of performance indicators such as content consistency, audience engagement, brand personality, video utilisation, community interaction and overall marketing effectiveness.

Among the Cardiff sandwich brands included within the review, Big Mamma's Sandwich Club emerged as the highest-ranked social media brand overall.

The recognition reflects a sustained commitment to building a social media presence that goes beyond simply promoting products. Instead, the focus has been on creating a recognisable brand, fostering meaningful engagement with customers and establishing a distinctive voice within Cardiff's competitive hospitality market.

Over the past year, Cardiff Advertising Co. has worked closely with Big Mamma's Sandwich Club to develop a content strategy centred around authenticity, entertainment, community engagement and consistent brand messaging. The result has been a growing audience, stronger customer interaction and a social media presence that continues to stand out in an increasingly crowded marketplace.

While many businesses still use social media primarily as a platform for announcements and promotions, Big Mamma's has embraced a modern, audience-first approach. Through engaging video content, memorable storytelling and regular interaction with its community, the business has developed a loyal and highly engaged following across multiple platforms.

The benchmark review identified Big Mamma's as a standout performer, particularly in its ability to combine strong visual branding with consistent audience engagement and content delivery, key indicators of long-term social media success.

For Cardiff Advertising Co., the result serves as validation of a marketing strategy built around creativity, consistency and measurable brand development.

"Social media success isn't measured solely by follower numbers. It's about building a brand that people recognise, engage with and actively choose to follow. Big Mamma's Sandwich Club has embraced that philosophy from the beginning, and the outcome demonstrates what can be achieved when a business commits to building genuine connections with its audience."

The findings highlight what is possible when ambitious local businesses invest in strategic marketing and long-term brand building. In today's digital landscape, standing out requires more than great products alone, it requires a compelling brand story, consistent communication and a clear understanding of what resonates with customers.

For Big Mamma's Sandwich Club, achieving the highest ranking within this review represents another important milestone in its ongoing growth and development.

For Cardiff Advertising Co., it reinforces a simple belief we've long held. When creativity, strategy and consistency work together, local businesses can build brands capable of competing with the very best.

Review Basis: Ranking determined through Cardiff Advertising Co.'s comparative analysis of publicly available social media activity across selected Cardiff sandwich brands. Assessment criteria included content consistency, audience engagement, video utilisation, brand presence, audience interaction and overall social media effectiveness at the time of review. Results reflect Cardiff Advertising Co.'s evaluation against these criteria and are intended as a benchmarking exercise rather than an industry accreditation or formal award.

Every now and then, advertising isn’t just about getting attention, it’s about breaking a habit. When the new owners at Chilli Grill Chicken & Pizza- Ely took over the premises from another business which stood before it, locals were still calling it by the previous business name, 'Chilli Flames', so instead of avoiding it, we tackled it head on.

The solution? A repetitive, catchy jingle designed to create that memory effect, reinforcing the new brand name again and again until it sticks. Simple, strategic, and built for long-term recall across future campaigns.

Well… here it is 🌶️🔥
