“Fortunately, I was caught in time. But it could have been a different story completely."
Paul, 65, was running ultramarathons and felt in top shape. But cancer doesn't care how fit you are.
With a brother fighting advanced prostate cancer, Paul trusted his gut and got a PSA blood test at a Prostate Cymru event in Brecon. It triggered a red alert. Despite initial pushback from his GP, Paul insisted on answers. He was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer and underwent surgery.
Because Paul was a nurse, he knew how to advocate for himself. But what about the men who don't know the risks?
This Petition Week, let's end the guesswork.
Action starts with us. Click below to sign the petition for a national screening review.

“Three out of four members of both my bands have prostate cancer. To me, a national screening programme is a no-brainer.”
Michael Breach, 74, played guitar in Swansea bands for decades. Today, he’s facing a different reality: a stage four prostate cancer diagnosis that has spread to his bones and pancreas.
Like many men, Michael didn't want to bother his GP because he felt fine. Prostate cancer rarely has early symptoms. It wasn't until he attended a Prostate Cymru pop-up blood test event that the truth was uncovered.
This Petition Week, Michael is asking why the current system relies on men to self-diagnose and beg for a 5-minute blood test.
If we had a national screening programme, Michael’s cancer wouldn't be stage four. We need to end the stigma and the dismissal at the GP surgery.
Action starts with us. Click below to sign the petition for a national screening review and find a mobile PSA testing clinic near you this year.
