North Cardiff Piano Lessons
29/05/2021
Hello everyone. With the kids back in school and a spirit of optimism with the Covid crisis more under control I'm getting a lot of new enquiries for lessons for children.
I thought it would be useful to give you all some pointers for if you're considering getting in touch.
1. Do you have a suitable instrument? A keyboard simply wont do as it isnt touch responsive and old family acoustic piano may well need some TLC from a piano tuner. If an acoustic is not an option then a fully weighted 88 key digital piano is what you need to scour the internet for. An entry level portable would probably cost just under £350 and I can advise you on models that I'm familiar with.
2. Is your child ready? Is your child keen? Remember that the development of reading skills, fine motor control, and ability to concentrate changes rapidly between the ages of 5 to 7. We also need to bear in mind their social skills. A 30 minute one to one lesson may simply be too much of an ask...with operating a Covid Safe environment I have to discourage parents from being present wherever possible. Having said that many children do better without an audience.
3. Availability.
Me: I have many long term students who treasure their particular lesson timeslot. I am trying to offer a few extra places and often your enquiry can be sheer luck whether we can find a compatible slot
You: many parents call but in conversation it transpires that their childs availability is very limited. Childcare, swimming lessons, football, cubs, dance etc etc. Please have a think about what you are really looking for. Dont forget to factor in mealtimes transport times and bedtimes!
Hope this helps!
Summer hols now but a few brave souls continuing their video lessons. I'm hopeful that I can start face to face teaching (albeit distanced) around mid-September. I have done a risk assessment and have a new operating policy. My teaching numbers will be a little restricted as I will need to space lessons out so students dont cross paths. Currently sorting out my diary to see who's carrying on and agree new times. Priority to existing students of course. Cant wait to start a new normal.
