Insole Court

As we head into the weekend, we're nearing the end of our National Volunteers' Week series. While we only have a few more volunteers to introduce you to, they represent just a small part of the incredible community that helps make Insole Court what it is.

Today, meet Greg. Greg joined our Maintenance Team in October 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his career as a surveyor.

🌿 Why do you volunteer?

Greg: "It's just nice to help out, and I enjoy it. I used to be a surveyor, and I loved getting out to look at interesting, heritage buildings and figuring out what could be repaired or improved. Insole Court is the nicest of them all, so it's a pleasure to take care of it."

🌿 What do you love about Insole Court?

Greg: "I love it all. Especially the grounds and gardens. My wife and I had family photographs taken here over 30 years ago, when my son was small, and it's always been special place for us."

🌿 What's your favourite thing?

Greg: "Seeing the improvements, slowly but surely. Since the Lottery restoration, you can really see how the house and grounds have come together. My favourite project was rebuilding the balustrade on the croquet lawn, it was a real puzzle and I enjoyed uncovering bits and pieces hidden away in the undergrowth and helping put them back where they belong. And, for the record, my least favourite thing is the checking the drains!"

Greg is one of a handful of dedicated volunteers who help maintain and improve Insole Court's historic estate. From rebuilding and restoring features to tackling all of the practical jobs across the site.

Their skills, knowledge and hard work help ensure that Insole Court remains a beautiful and welcoming place for everyone to enjoy. To Greg, and to all of our Maintenance Team volunteers, thank you for everything you do. 🌿🔨
