Our Learning and Engagement Manager Deirdre Buckley had a great time at New Designers on Friday. Some fantastic work and great presentation. She particularly enjoyed the MMU interpretation.

"With my Learning and Engagement hat on I was drawn to these graduates whose projects connect to themes we are exploring in our wider programme.

1&2. Kayleigh Yule from 's LOOM-inate project - on-the-go accessible handweaving.

I liked her focus on making a difficult concept easier and building confidence among young people.

3&4. Cecily Allwright .allwright from presenting with Assembly Point - Inbetween Kits.

I loved her idea of the Craft kit vending machine for train stations transforming moments of waiting into opportunities for creativity, learning and participation.

5&6. .design.and.craft University of Brighton's Anna-Maria with her Christmas tree table and chair.

What she said about why she makes - making things that care, making things that hold responsibility and making things optimistically - really resonated with me and connected with work we have been doing in our current project Making For Climate Change."

Here's a round up of what's on...

Next weekend we'll be at the The Jewellery Quarter BID Festival. Come along and see us at The Hive for our free drop-in workshop.

Join to learn how to make an origami butterfly or moth from beautiful Japanese origami paper. Take it home to keep as a decoration or wear it as a brooch.

The butterfly can be a symbol of many admirable and healing qualities including: resilience, endurance, rebirth, transformation, resurrection, change, hope and life.
