Pest control isn’t always about using rodenticide and insecticides. Today I have arranged for the safe relocation of a swarm of honey bees from a school.

Just some of the destruction caused by squirrels in your roof space. Females are currently looking for somewhere to nest, ready for their first litter in spring.

You will probably be alerted to the existence of fleas as your pet may constantly scratch itself, or you may develop skin irritations or reactions to bites. The existence of fleas can be confirmed by the identification of flea droppings, which are small and black in colour. These normally contain dried blood, and are often found in clusters next to the skin.
If you do have a pet, they are easily spotted in light haired animals by brushing back the hair. However, in dark coated animals it may be better to comb the animal over a sheet of paper onto which the flea droppings will then fall. To identify whether these black objects are in fact flea dropping, simply add a few drops of water to them. If they are flea droppings, they will turn red.

In view of the current situation with Coronavirus, it will be good practice if I

Wash my hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds

Aways wash my hands when i get home or into work

Wash my hands before and after visiting a client’s site

Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

Cover my mouth and nose with a tissue or my sleeve (not my hands) when I cough or sneeze

Put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash my hands afterwards

Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

Not touch my eyes, nose or mouth if my hands are not clean

Pay particular attention to situations where I am are undertaking actions where items may have passed through many hands, eg cash handling.
