On Wednesday 1 July, join media professional, researcher and oral historian Ankhobia for a free workshop at Pannel Croft retirement village in Newtown on VIBES: Tracing the Roots of Urban Music – From the Caribbean to Birmingham.
Running from 10am - 3pm, participants will have the opportunity to contribute to a new community archive that captures personal memories, musical experiences and cultural histories connected to Birmingham's diverse communities.
If you have any vinyl records, photographs, objects or other items connected to musical memories from Africa, the Caribbean or about music genres such as calypso, soca, hip hop, ska, soca, dancehall, drum and bass, soul or any others connected to the Caribbean or the UK, please bring them along. They'll be photographed and included as part of a digital archive celebrating the role of Caribbean music in Birmingham's rich musical heritage.
